Where do I begin... Let me see..
I had a bit of a roller coaster-like educational path in order to get to where I am today, and it all started right out of high school in 2013. I was in a Bachelor of Arts of Community Studies at Cape Breton University; fast forward two years, and I decided to take a bit of a break from that. I ended up moving to Halifax to study hair and makeup at the Hair Design Centre, which felt like the right decision for me. In 2016, I graduated and decided to move back home and worked at the Sydney Headshoppe, quickly realizing the salon setting just wasn’t for me. After only 7 months out of hair school, I opened my own salon, the Babe Cave Hair Boutique!
While running my own salon (as my sole income), I decided to finish what I started at CBU; 2017 was a rough ride being a full time student and a full time entrepreneur, but somehow I did it. It might have taken me a little longer than planned, but I graduated from CBU in 2018 with my Bachelor of Arts Community Studies with a concentration in Communication *does happy dance* ! I even went back to take some more courses thinking I’d like to be a teacher; it turns out, being a hairdresser wasn’t as fulfilling for me as I thought, as I was constantly stressed and burnt out.
So how did I get here and how did I find my happiness at Moda? Well, my fiancée Trent is in the Navy as a Sonar Operator and he was on course at the base in Halifax when he got assigned to a ship on the east coast; this meant we would be in Halifax permanently. I had plans to stay in Cape Breton longer, but it just felt right to move when I did, so I packed up the Babe Cave, sold my house (that my dad built just a year before (sorry dad)), and I shipped my entire life to Halifax, me included!
While I did start out here in Halifax doing hair, I was miserable and my friends and family could tell - heck I think strangers could tell if I’m being honest! I had applied for hundreds of positions online and nothing ever sparked my interest, I started to feel a bit defeated. Then, one day, I received a message on Indeed from Jenn Alderman and from that day forward my life changed (cheesy, yet so true).
When I left my House of Moda interview, I was was filled with a level of confidence I had never before experienced in my entire life; it just felt like I was finally where I was supposed to be. Talking with Ozlem and Jenn, I just felt like I actually fit in and could be openly passionate about anything my little heart desired. Ozlem brings out the best in people and I truly believe that since I met her over 2 short months ago, I have become a much better version of myself, a more fearless version of who I am (she has that effect on you, ask anyone that knows her).
Now we are here! I have 3 new very incredible women in my life and I couldn’t be more thankful. I have met some of the most wonderful people working at the store, people that I know will be in my life in some way forever. The universe has a magical way of putting you exactly where you were always meant to be and I’m so happy to be here ♥️
